Preschool is an exciting time filled with learning, discovery, and curiosity. Literacy
Studies have shown that children grow into strong readers and writers when early literacy skills and language are developed and supported. The Breakie Bunch Learning Center Waterford preschool focuses on that by having a curriculum designed to assist our preschoolers in identifying letters and sounds, using reading-like behaviors, rhyming, finger plays, learning to write their name, using forms of early writing (scribbling and drawing), and learning early storytelling, such as:
- Ability to retell and predict stories
- “Reading” the stories they write.
At our Waterford preschool, we support all of our students to ensure their literacy skills are strengthened, regardless of where they are in development.
Social and Emotional
Preschool is a time of significant social and emotional development. We assist our Waterford childcare students in learning to manage and develop their large emotions as they prepare to move into a school setting. Many studies showcase that children are more confident and secure when they are allowed to express their feelings, moods, and opinions in a healthy way. Math

When discussing science with preschoolers, it helps to engage interest and curiosity in their environment and question why things happen, build awareness of plant and animal life, understand the use of simple tools, and also learn environmental characteristics, such as seasons, weather, rocks, and the earth.
Social Studies
Our children need to learn to be citizens of the community in which they live, as well as good stewards of the planet. To that end, we encourage all of the children in our Waterford childcare center to observe and learn about themselves, their families, special occasions, rules and consequences, occupations, how people use money, and taking care of their environment.
Physical Health and Development
With all the discussion in the news of the link between physical health, nutrition, and learning, we at The Breakie Bunch Learning Center Waterford preschool take great care in helping our preschoolers learn about their bodies and personal hygiene. We help them learn how to practice their own personal hygiene, how to prevent spreading germs, who to turn to in an emergency, what is a healthy choice, and recognition of their body parts.
Additionally, all children in our Waterford childcare participate in active play, where they will have opportunities to coordinate movements, such as throwing and catching. We will assist our Waterford preschoolers with learning to cut with scissors and how to properly hold pencils and crayons.
